Laura is the Director of Public Affairs and Global Media Relations for the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health. Her public affairs and international development expertise serves to advance science, people, and policy to discover novel approaches for disease intervention and delivery of preventive health impacts for animals and humans.
Laura is skillful at developing compelling messaging and digital storytelling to promote complex international research initiatives. Also, fluent in working with federal government funding agencies providing seamless management of transnational research programs promotions and public engagement, such as USAID Feed the Future, USAID Democracy, Human Rights and Governance, CDC, NIH, and NIAID, among others.
Bringing a wide range of international experience, Laura has long been a service leader that includes working for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) in Armenia and Kazakhstan, the Foundation for Russian American Economic Cooperation, and APCO Worldwide Public Affairs. Each year Laura volunteers as an election observer for the OSCE/ODIHR in the Former Soviet Union.
Laura’s former leadership positions include serving as Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at Woodland Park Zoo where she led strategic communications, public affairs initiatives, digital media, and local government relations efforts. Laura has worked for several elected officials in Washington state as the Communications Director and Strategic Advisor for the Seattle City Council, and as the Deputy Communications Director and external affairs liaison for Governor Chris Gregoire.
