Biography:

Laura is the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, responsible for strategic communications and public affairs for all departments and service units including, Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience, Washington Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory, among others. Her work centers on science and research advocacy and public affairs in support of healthy animals, healthy people, and a healthy planet.

Laura’s former leadership positions include serving as Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at Woodland Park Zoo where she led strategic communications, public affairs initiatives, digital media, and local government relations efforts. Laura has worked for several elected officials in Washington state as the Communications Director and Strategic Advisor for the Seattle City Council, and as the Deputy Communications Director and external affairs liaison for Gov. Chris Gregoire.

Her wide range of international experience includes working for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs in Armenia and Kazakhstan, the Foundation for Russian American Economic Cooperation, and APCO Worldwide Public Affairs. Each year Laura volunteers as an election monitor for the OSCE/ODIHR in the Former Soviet Union.

Personal Statement:

WSU College of Veterinary Medicine is committed to the health and well-being of animals and the direct relation between animal, human, and environmental health. I am driven by the hope for a better world via public education based on fact and science and I am proud to be a part of a great organization that encourages all of us to be better citizens and stewards of the animals, humans, and the environment.
