Biography

Miss Fiona Ochieng’ is the Administrative Officer of Washington State University Global Health - Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration and Management and is currently pursuing a post graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. She has seven years’ professional experience in administration with extensive proficiency in but not limited to, Human resource management, policy development, labor laws, statutory compliance and adherence, training and development, project management and coordination.

Between 2010 and 2011, Fiona worked as a Branch Administrator with Old Mutual Group, a multinational firm, where she managed the operations of the branch ensuring compliance and increase of business. In 2012 Fiona joined Kenya Medical Research Institute/Centre for Disease Control (KEMRI/CDC) Program, where she served as a Program Administrative Officer for the HIV Implementation Science and Services Project. While in this position, Fiona played the key role in strategic planning, employee relations and management, dissemination and implementation of organizational policies, budget analysis/ preparation and monitoring of approved projects. In Mid-2016, Fiona took up a position with Vysnova Partners Inc, as a Project Associate, where she was responsible for project management and coordination, through mid-2017.

I am an organized, dedicated and self-driven administrator, who strongly believes in integrity, professionalism, and diversity in a team.

Human resource management is an industry area in commerce that is ever-increasing in importance. It is an area that has gone from strength-to-strength as the emphasis on the workforce has developed in recent years, and now a vital cog in the machinery of any business.

I love interacting with people and learning from them, human resources gives me the opportunity to relate with staff at a professional level and find ways in which I can support and offer service to them.

In my free time I love travelling and enjoy planning events.

Expertise

Presently Fiona Ochieng’ is tasked with Program Administration at WSU Global Health - Kenya. The position requires her to have proficiency in Human Resource management i.e. employment law, recruitment, contract management, employee performance, staff learning and development, and employee benefit management. Fiona also coordinates program activities which include logistics, training, and procurement of supplies as well as disbursement of petty cash.

Motivation

Community development and service is something that is close to my heart, WSU receives grants to conduct important research in Kenya and other areas of the world that has a great impact to the society. My role allows me to serve the community by supporting the ongoing research and gives me hope for the future.

Secondly, I strongly believe in integrity and team diversity an aspect that is highly encouraged at WSU Global Health - Kenya.
