Local Policy Making for Animal Health and Food Systems: Interactions with National and Global Policies
Columbus, Ohio
October, 2010
A joint program of the School for Global Animal Health (Washington State University), The Global Food Safety Systems Leadership Initiative (University of Minnesota), University of Minnesota Center for Animal Health and Food Safety, Ohio State University, and the Masters of Preventive Veterinary Medicine (University of California, Davis).
About the Program
In this three-day program, participants will work on an issue addressing bovine tuberculosis control and eradication from cattle and wild deer populations in Minnesota. This issue highlights the interface between federal, state and local policy involving both animal and human public health. This issue has state (local), national, and global implications and the group will explore the development and implementation of state-level standards and policy, as well as development of memorandums of understanding between state and federal policymakers. The program will emphasize the impact of these policies on food safety, animal health, inter-state trade, and public health.
