Rabies is the deadliest zoonotic disease on the planet. Every year more than 59,000 people die from rabies. The deaths are mostly in Africa, India, and other parts of Asia where 99 percent of rabies cases are found. One-half of deaths are children under the age of 16.

The WSU Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health works with international partners to eliminate rabies as a cause of human suffering and death by 2030. Combining game changing discoveries such as the thermo-tolerance of rabies vaccines which allows delivery to remote, underserved communities with community-based vaccination of over 1 million dogs in east Africa, WSU is a leader in development and deployment of the strategies needed to eliminate rabies.
