Sandip Roy

Sandip RoySandip Roy devises mathematical equations to describe distinct points and interconnecting routes within networks—not just computer networks, but also epidemiological ones, such as the pool of possible victims of a virus.

Great similarities exist between the challenges of controlling the spread of pathogens and managing computer networks, Professor Roy says. His work predicts how a network will behave under certain conditions. In turn, it reveals how different management techniques might change a network’s behavior—and prevent or control an epidemic.

By understanding relationships that constrain or empower disease-causing agents, he aims to uncover ways in which vaccines could be deployed more effectively.

Professor Roy is an associate professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and in the School for Global Animal Health. Organizations supporting his research include the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.
